Why is B-J perceived as the barometer for the hobby ? Every price paid this weekend, low or high, is just a blip. Rich folk show up at this auction because it's become the 'place to be seen', there are a lot of rare cars being offered for sale in one place (these guys don't have a lot of time to go running all over the country looking at cars) and it gives them a chance to 'show what they've got', so to speak. Just because one or two guys that fancied Desotos decided to show up with their $1 million bonus checks doesn't mean that every Desoto is now going to be worth 10 times what it was worth a month ago. It also doesn't mean that letter cars are going to drop in value. The problem is that if enough people interpret B-J as the direction that the market is going, then perception becomes reality. OTOH, it's nice that Desotos are finally getting some recognition.
