In answereing a few Emails directly to me about "thrown" wheelcovers........this is in regard to 1964 and 1965.....on my '64s and '65, I have "thrown" the front wheelcovers. This is not a rim problem. It is a wheelcover problem. In those years, the wheelcovers are of the "dish" type. Quite frankly, they are cheaply made. One can "push" on the WC with their thumb and actually "dent" it. The gripping edges of the '64-'65 WCs are nothing like the previous years. In fact, one can actually "twist" the '64s and '65s by hand. Upon inspection, the later WCs do not have any "venting" like the earlier ones. Higher speed driving causes an air buildup (pressure) between the vented rim and the WC, especially going around curves. The "wimpy" gripping edges of the WC can easily become dislodged from the rim. To date, I am not aware of any '55 thru '63 WC being "thrown" during driving. It is not a problem with the rim or the tire, radial or bias. George Riehl.
