Those that get Old Cars weekly may have notice the reader question regarding the safety of old tires and when to discard. Answer from the tire manufacturers is 5 yrs regardless of mileage. The theory is that the vulcanization process is thought to continue beyond the mold resulting in chemical changes in the rubber such as hardening and brittleness making them prone to cracking.
