Hi Matthew and All: I think Chris and John gave you good advice. As John has said on a number of occasions, "it is only original once". An original car's value is not as much in the monetary sense, as in the historical. I firmly believe it is an atrocity to "restore" an original car which was in excellent condition. Once restored, a 300 can no longer be counted on as a guide to those who need an authority as to what was correct from Chrysler. I know I used Steve Albu's "reference 300F" on our Club website many many times during the restoration of mine. So Matthew, in my opinion, treat your beautiful original 300G as a rare treasure--enjoy driving it if that is your pleasure, and know that it is something no restored car can ever be---ORIGINAL. 300ly, Gil Cunningham Chilly but not snowy Tallahassee, FL In a message dated 2/13/2007 11:54:23 PM Eastern Standard Time, m.ostrowski@xxxxxxxx writes: Greetings fellow members, I just purchased a '61 300G all original in good shape. I would like to learn more about the level of restoration I might chose to do, if any. The body is very solid, paint is good, interior leather has some cracks. I guess my questions are the following: What does leaving the car original do to its value? If I decide to restore the car what type of restoration is best, frame on, frame off etc? Can you clean up the frame/underside of these cars, restore the interior, and paint the car? Would collectors be interested? Does it help or hurt the value? Any ideas of restoration costs and who is the best to do it? Thank you in advance for any info you can provide!
