[Chrysler300] charging

To all, I need some insight to the Sport's lack of charging.    Could be time to replace battery.     Motor runs with positive cable dis-connected.       When connected,ammeter shows slight discharge during idle, and only charges when forced to aroung 1500 rpm's
   
  Battery holds charge after 1/2 hr on life support unit,  but will not survive on it's own.
