A couple of things.  First, I purchased a Pertronix from John Lazenby a 
couple of years ago and installed it in my 300F.  Since it was recently, and 
without digging out my paperwork, I assume it is a Pertronix II.  I then took the 
distributor over to a speed shop and had them set the curve so that I would have 
improved acceleration from a stop but good economy at road speeds.  I have 
had absolutely no problems with the installation and am happy with the 
performance.
 
Secondly, when I purchased my F in October of 1995, it had 108,000 original 
miles on it.  It now has over 125,000 and there is still no noticable erosion 
of the metal around the thermostat pot.  Can't say that it has ever been driven 
any differently than other 300F's.  Maybe because it has been in So. 
California all its life.
