Re: [Chrysler300] 300G brake booster

Kenny,

I agree with John, it will not affect performance. Although my G does not hiss, I have an old Dodge that has done this for the past 15+ years, never had a problem stopping. I used to drag race this car and had to really stand on the brakes at the end of certain tracks.

I guess it's an issue of how much the noise irritates you.

Good luck,

Hi Kenny,

My 300G's booster has been hissing for the past 30,000 miles. I believe
that the culprit is nothing more than a cheap O- ring at the rear of the
booster (where the brake pedal actuates it). Perhaps someone else on the
list has succesfully replaced this O- ring themselves? Those boosters are
pretty easy to take apart. Anyway, for whatever it's worth, I think it's
doubtful that the booster will "go out" when you really need it; it will
just keep hissing until the - ring is replaced.

Subject: [Chrysler300] 300G brake booster

Hey gang. Hoping I can get some confirmation (or correction) of my
diagnosis on the "hissing" brake booster on my G.

It hisses when stepping on the brake pedal, otherwise seems to work
normally. Pedal height is a bit low but I'm told that is normal on these,
and I realize that is all about the master cylinder, not the booster. When
testing the booster, it passes this test: with engine off, pump pedal a few
times until hard, then, with foot on pedal, start engine, pedal sinks just a
bit. I'm told that means the booster is doing it's job. However, should it
be hissing at all? I don't believe so, and I'm concerned about it going out
when I really need it. So, I'm considering sending out the booster to get
it rebuilt. I hate to disable the car for that period of time, but without
a correct rebuilt booster in hand, I guess I have no choice.

Can anyone confirm or correct my diagnosis? Thanks much.
