Hi again 300 group, Thanks for the information on Hot coil. Tried the 300G again this morning. Adjusted the timing a bit. Turned the distributor a little CCW. Engine turned over easily and started quickly. As usual. Wanted to check the coil as far a heating up. After running about 1 minute, I noticed that the coil was beginning to get warm. The top of the coil was beginning to warm up noticeably, while the bottom of the coil was normal temperature. (Coil in the normal, installed position on the top of the ram intake. Positive terminal + to the passenger side and Negative terminal to the drivers side.) After about 2 minutes the top of the coil is getting hotter and the bottom of the coil is still normal temp. After about 3 minutes the top of the coil is getting HOT and the bottom is getting warmer. After about 4 minutes the top of the Coil is getting VERY HOT (one second touch) and the bottom is getting warmer. Shut down the engine and let it cool down. This is a Mopar Performance Coil. Look in the parts box and find the old coil (NAPA high performance coil). Install the old coil. Fire up the engine, Play around with the timing as it warms up. Check the coil after a minute or so and it is getting warm like the other one. The top is getting hotter and the bottom is staying cooler. Shut it down and try to figure out what is going on. Why would the coil heat up after 2 to 3 minutes of running? Wiring? Ballast Resistor? Wrong Resistor? No Resistor? How hot can a coil get and still function? How Long Will it last? I need to figure out the Hot Coil and then get Fatter Cables and check out the starter. Thanks for the Help, Lauren R Lampi.
