Don't remember if Dexron III/Mercon obsolescence has been mentioned here and if it has'nt, be aware the designation will soon disappear. GM licensing has been terminated. GM says, with appropriate level of weasel wording, that Dexron-VI is backwards compatible for GM applications specifying Dexron III. GM statement for sure does not apply in any way to any other vehicle manufacturers vehicles. Have not seen any mention that Type F will be taken out of production. Mercon comes Mercon III, Mercon IV, Mercon V and Mercon SP to name some and none of these are broad general, direct replacements for Mercon fluid or interchangeable BTW.
