Ron and All:
Thanks for the additional record player info.  I could not remember  anything 
in my service manual on it, so just rechecked.  It is the blue and  yellow 
1960 Chrysler and Imperial manual, and mine, at least has NOTHING on any  record 
player!   Wonder why the difference??

can't  give you any background on the Hi-Way HiFi, but I was there for the  
introduction of the RCA unit.  The RCA unit (45rpm with inverted spindle  which 
held 10 records) was offered  through the Desoto/Plymouth Dealers  for the 1960 
model year only.  They had no corporate identification  except for the RCA 
logo on the front and a paper sticker on the back with a  serial number and 
model AP-1.  RCA may have marketed them through the  dealer system after that and 
I think some of the company radios were supplied  with auxiliary sockets   My 
Chrysler Imperial Service Manual (and  Desoto) for 1960 has it listed with 
seven pages of service instructions.   I can not say that it was only offered as 
a dealer install, they are  highlighted in a Desoto brochure for 1960.
