This particular thread on the Forwardlook list might be of some interest/speculation to others on the 300 listserver. I didn't ask, but it would be interesting to find out where & when the writer drove the 300-D with operational F.I., and if anyone could confirm if the 4-speed F convertible (with 401 HP?)was ever on display in Pasenda, either as a new or used car. To: L-FORWARDLOOK@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Hah! No, thanks to my dad, I was simply a Mopar fanatic way back then and I just figured they'd last forever and always be around. To add to the list from an "almost" point if view (like the ones that got away), I had an opportunity to purchase a '58 Chrysler 300D Fuelie, with the Bendix unit still operational for 1400 bucks, and while out test driving it, got whooped by a '58 Buick in a traffic light drag race. So I passed on that one. Also, had a shot at a 57 DeSoto Adventurer HT with a freshly rebuilt motor and tranny (man did THAT thing move out) for 1400 bucks, but procrastinated a bit and by the time I went back with cash in hand it had already been sold. Likewise had the opportunity to at least SIT in the drivers seat of a white '60 Chrysler 300F which was on display at a local Pasadena,Ca dealer...the one that had the French 4 sp tranny and 400 HP (although at the time it was advertised as having 401 HP) and short-ram inducted motor. Dealer wouldn't allow a test drive as it was supposedly for "display" only. Test drove a shiney Red brand new '61 Plymouth Fury vert with a 383 ram motor in it. Wishful thinking at that time. Sheesh, the more and longer I think about it, the greater that "pain" becomes. I was young and stupid and had a lot of money back then....now I am old and smart and essentially broke. Sometimes life is really cruel. Gee, I'd be well on my way to being a multi-millionaire if I still had all the Mopes I once owned. Like a '56 DeSoto Adventurer Conv, I traded off because I felt it cost too much to fix the L/F fender I banged up. Like the '57 Plymouth Fury I sold to my brother for 500 bucks because I was too cheap to find the cause of why it would try to start all by itself in the middle of the night. Like the '58 Dodge Super D500 Custom Royal Conv, that I pulled the tired 2 4bbl 361 out of and sold for 50 bucks just so I could install a 413 I had taken out of a 60 Chrysler New Yorker...then literally gave away because it ran slower than it did with the 361 it had. Like the '60 Dodge Dart D500 Conv with 383 ram motor. Sold it off after getting my butt beat by a "girl" in a '61 Pontiac tri-power 421 who went on to be on the cover of Motor Trend magazine. Like the black '61 Chrysler 300G Conv with the rare factory all black interior I sold to a traveling salesman for 600 bucks because I got tired of it blowing holes in one of its cylinders because I was too stupid at the time to realize that one bank was way much leaner than the other bank due to my having the carbs way out of adjustment. Like the 61 Plymouth Valiant with a V8 in it that was given to me by a fellow who said I could have it if I could get it started. I got it started, and promptly sold it for 100 bucks because I needed the money. Like the brand new '69 Road Runner 4sp 383 Conv I had but got rid of because it wasn't delivered the way I had ordered it and the dealer refused to take it back and make good on it. Like the brand new '70 440 4sp Cuda I had and had to get rid of because the wife said so. Then after a long haitus of being a married family man, I went and got me ANOTHER black '61 Chrysler 300G, this time a fully restored #2 hardtop and again foolishly sold to a collector who made me an offer I felt at the time I just couldn't refuse.....and then 6 months later, on the Barrett Jackson auction, BOTH a '61 300G vert and a '61 300G HT went for 190 grand and a 160 grand respectully. Then like a fool, gave up my fully restored '64 440 powered Plymouth Fury to another collecto for a fraction of its actual valuer, because it seemed the right thing to do at the time. Ahhh yes, if I only had the "foresight". I wouldn't be here whining about it now. It hurts even now, just thinking about it. --------------------------------- Yahoo! oneSearch: Finally, mobile search that gives answers, not web links. ************************************************************* To unsubscribe or set your subscription options, please go to http://lists.psu.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=l-forwardlook&A=1 --------------------------------- Luggage?
