[Chrysler300] 440 300 problem

Ryan and all.
I had a 426 wedge rebuilt, Dyno tested and dropped in my 62 300 Sport. After about 2,000 miles the fuel pump push rod was so worned out I got stuck by the side of the road... with no gas being pumped to the carbs of course. Regular fuel pump in the car, no heavier fuel pump inner spring or anything. The push rod was a good 3/8 inch shorter than a new one!
My engine shop told me the problem was the breaking oil they used. Apparently, an ingredient in the oil has been taken out of the original oil recipe, so to speak, by the oil manufacturer(without notice to engine rebuilders?) and that's what was causing the early and fast wear out of the push rod.
The engine shop has since been using John Deere engine breaking oil which will not cause premature wear of engine components.
Needless to say the cam in that 426 wedge is trash now. I will have to check crank main bearings and rod bearing before another start up of this engine. I had 2 engines done since the 426 , both were breaked in with John Deere breaking oil and so far no problems or premature wear. I use diesel oil in all my engines.
Regards.
Jean-Yves in New Brunswick.(K conv. etc...)
