Matt: You apparently have a real collector's item. One member indicated he had seen them go at $1,000. I'd sure give the tire a good detergent scrubbing with a stiff bristle brush, Brillo pad or 3M scrubbing pad the WSW's (don't use the bleach products as they may do more harm than good on the old tire) and possibly a complete wipedown with a good tire protectant (again-not something oily or greasy designed to give that super shine). I look forward to words, letters, numbers, pictures, dimensions (tread width, tread depth, cross section width at 30 psi inflation, outside diameter (height when standing is easiest, circumference may be a more accurate method of determining OD)-or whatever part of this information you can develop. I have seen some information that suggests the blue circle is actually a spot to insert a basketball-type inflation needle to inflate the space between a liner and the inner section of the liner that would be inflated through the normal valve stem. The liner was to provide protection against a complete flat tire, with the space between the liner and tire carcass losing pressure while the inner liner would remain pressurized and provide some support and control while slowing from 130-150 MPH. Any information you or others might have on this would be appreciated. I do remember working on tires like this in the '50's and they were a PIA. Goodyear or Goodrich Safety-Liners? Then, I think I'd store the tire and wheel lying flat somewhere cool and dry until showtime. Inflated to about 20 psi. I also suggest you get yourself another wheel and spare tire for day-to-day use as a driver. This weekend I will pull it out, photograph it and pass it along to those interested. It sounds like I really don't want to use this should the need arise. Possibly a second spare for those long rides or a AAA membership might be advisable. Regards, Matt O cotejohnr@xxxxxxx wrote: Rich, Don't you mean that the P235/75/15 is closest to the 880X15! (NOT the P225/75/15) I think that the diameter is the most important dimension to match if your choosing a replacement radial. Also the radial design lets the car sit a little lower than a bias ply even though the overall diameter is the same or very close to the same. Been there, done that. John R. The L78X15 (actual) is a never used Remington bias-ply tire mounted on a 5.5" Motor Wheel wire-spoke Chrysler rim (mine). Once you commit to a radial tire, the size choice is yours. Several vendors offer these tires with the correct 3" WSW. The original tires were quite a bit narrower than the P-series radials or the J/L bias ply tires and perhaps a little bit taller. My conclusion is that the P225/75R15 comes the closest to the 8.00X15 dimensionally and may give you a 0.1" lower ride and a 3% speedometer error. Others that have actually purchased and used radial tires may have other guidance. I have been unable to find any original specifications for the Blue Streaks for comparison. I would be indebted to you if you would copy and transcribe all cast-in information, letters, numbers and symbols on your original spare, especially if it is a Goodyear Blue Streak. And, if you would measure the OD, cross-section width and tread width and remaining depth at 30 psi inflation pressure, I'd be doubly in debt. A digital picture of both sides would be great. And do preserve that old Blue Streak tire. They are like hens' teeth. I have heard that some members have been able to collect complete sets for their 300's. If our judges have specific guidelines on deductions for non-8.00X15 Blue Streak tires, that information would be of interest, also. I want to get the correct size and look for the car. My "G" has what I believe is the original spare in the trunk. It is a Good Year 8.00 - 15 with a 3"whitewall. Is this correct in size/whitewall width for the car? Does this translate to a P235/75R15? Any source better than others? I appreciate your response.
