Val, It's probably the tach cable that is making noise. It may just need to be lubed. This is best done by removing cable from distributor and holding that end up high while adding lube. Otherwise, you need to access the back of the tach from underneath the dash. You need to unsnap the cloth and the top part of the fibre console.
