used it for 20 years so what do I know?  If you are really lazy like 
me you can use a random orbital machine with a foam pad.  Put the 
orbiter in a vise and use something like Griot's polishing compound.  
It is a very thin liquid material.
I had two NOS tail light lens for my 300F which had been in the 
unopened boxes for 47 years and were dulled by abrasion from sliding 
around in the boxes.  I used the orbiter and it took less than 30 
seconds on each lens to make them absolutely flawless.  Stunning is 
the word.
They also sell a compound that is a little more aggressive for deeper 
scratches.
