Before I installed my carpet, I laid down an insulation pad with a foil face. I don't know the technical term for it, but it's about 1/2 inch thick, and is a kind of dense grey padding, it's not foam. I put the foil side down and used some spray glue a strategic points to keep it in place as I installed the carpet. I used it in place of carpet padding. This material is used by street rodders for the same reason; sound deadening and heat deflection. You'll need a good tough scissors to cut it. I also glued strips to the underside of the roof (with the foil side toward the outside) before I installed the headliner. It works well in my black car. I bought two rolls from J.C. Whitney, and it was just enough to do the car.
