[Chrysler300] steering wheel removal on 1970 Hurst

Hi folks,
I've determined that the little 18gauge black ground wire that goes to the horn relay is not being grounded when the horn switch is activated on my steering wheel of my Hurst.
I've seen under the steering wheel of vehicles of this vintage and there is usually a little wheel or roller that needs to maintain contact with the steering wheel to provide ground to that black wire while still allowing the wheel to be turned.
My problem is that this Hurst is equipped with both the tilt and telescopic functions, and my manual is not clear on how to remove the steering wheel on cars so equipped. If anyone can give me detailed instructions or point to a page number in the manual that I've missed it would be appreciated. The real sticking point is that the telescopic lever appears to be mounted on top of the nut that holds the steering wheel on the shaft, and I don't want to mess things up as both the tilt and telescopic functions work perfectly.
Any tips appreciated.
John
