Hi Rich and others interested, re: exhaust brackets If you have a '55 Service Manual, the purple book, you might want to look in the "Fuel and Exhaust Systems" section. On page 370 there is an excellent photo of one of the exhaust pipe brackets that attaches to the transmission. The photo is good enough that you can fabricate any parts missing just by looking at the illustration. Of course you will probably need to modify them a bit if you no longer have pipes that are bent as the originals were. I did not reinstall mine because of pipe differences and the additional support seems unnecessary. I'm saving them for future use.
