I sent this to Dennis directly but I think the general membership might benefit from my observations while visiting Karps shop. _____ From: John Mc Adams [mailto:clafong@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Wednesday, August 27, 2008 9:26 PM To: 'dennis57300@xxxxxxx' Subject: RE: [Chrysler300] karps brake booster rebuilds Dennis: As others have said, I would really much rather Karps rebuild the booster for me rather than me screw it up. Also look at it from his side of the equation. If you should screw something up and kill someone on the road, how would he feel? In addition, if you were to screw it up, it might reflect badly back on his product. Don't forget he has to pay for liability insurance when he guarantees his work. That is the value added feature of his prices that you probably haven't thought of. As an added comment, when I went down to see the guy at Karps, I saw probably 50 or more different REAL UNUSUAL styles of boosters from the remote units that the "J's" and "K's" use to all sorts of odd ball brake equipment for Diesel trucks, Marine stuff, who knows what else he had on the shelf. And ... His main business is his machine shop where he re-sleeves all sorts of disc brake calipers, master cylinders and such. Let's say you have one of those Cor_ette thingies and your calipers start to leak or lock up. He will machine out the caliper and make stainless steel inserts to get you back on the road in a quality and safe manner. Enough from my soap box, Big John Mc Adams (In SoCal) _____ From: Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of dennis57300@xxxxxxx Sent: Wednesday, August 27, 2008 3:48 PM To: chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [Chrysler300] karps brake booster rebuilds i e-mailed karps last night about a booster (bellows style) for the 57. a rep called me today which i was very impressed with. the prices for his products on the other hand, i wasnt impressed by at all. they said the bellows part alone was 240.00. the other parts to completely rebuild the unit was 110.00, 350.00 altogether. i also asked how much to send in my core and get a rebuilt unit from them and he said that was 360.00!!! he basically said that one way or another they were going to get at least 350.00 from me and theres nothing i can do. i hate vendors like that and i wish there was an alternative but they seem to know they have you by the kahoonas. that sucks. fight the man, more power to the people **************It's only a deal if it's where you want to go.
