To All; The cam gear for the cross ram engines has the hole for the locating pin on the camshaft drilled for the 2 deg. location (from standard) that makes the crank gear timing mark locate it at 4 deg. retard with the timing marks on the cam gear and the crank gear matching. A cam gear for a ram car with standard chain would be a #320 (NAPA and others). For a "normal" 361, 383 & 413 the cam gear would be a #290, used in the normal "straight -up" position. With the roller timing chain assembly I use, 4 deg retard, straight up, 4 deg advance (3 keyway cam gear), the ram cars get the 4 deg. retard position. Using the 4 deg. advance gives more power "off the line" but hampers the high end. The 4 deg. retard gives more at the "top end" but hampers the "off the line" performance. The "straight up" timing hampers "off the line" and and "top end" performance. Generally, the "straight up" timing is used for general "driveability", grocery shopping, picking up the kids and family vacations. Plus, using the lower lift and less duration camshaft, generally, is more gas saving. One person told me 4 degrees, another 2 degrees, and this latest post from Al says 3 degrees. Is there anyone on the list that knows with certainty what the correct number is? This is important if you are building an F or G motor, because you need to order the cam offset to use with the cam sprocket to get it right. The only other option is to use an original sprocket which can be hard to find. Being that you are in Australia, I would just replace the whole timing set with a Rollmaster unit (based over there), which allows easy cam timing. http://www.romac. <http://www.romac.com.au/> com.au/ Al Wilson >--- Original Message --- >From: "htp60300f" <michaelvanderveen@ <mailto:michaelvanderveen%40iprimus.com.au> iprimus.com.au> >To: Chrysler300@ <mailto:Chrysler300%40yahoogroups.com> yahoogroups.com >Date: 9/19/08 6:28:41 AM > Hi everyone thats interested, >according to the parts book 1960 >pp2 ram manifold, pd1 -500, pd2 -500,pd4 -500,ps1 ram manifold,ps3 >ram manifold, >PC3 - 300 PART NO 2129202 >PD4 WITH HIGH PERFORMANE (383CI 413CI) PART NO 1737622 >so i guess its different, >thanks for your interest, >Mike. >Australia. > > > > > > > > > > > >--- In Chrysler300@ <mailto:Chrysler300%40yahoogroups.com> yahoogroups.com, "htp60300f" ><michaelvanderveen@...> wrote: >> >> Hi all, >> hope every one that went to the meet had a great time, we'll try to >get >> to one when we visit in a couple of years. >> To my question, does anyone know where I could get a 38 teeth cam >gear >> For my F, >> Thanks all, >> Mike in Australia >> > > > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] ------------------------------------ To send a message to this group, send an email to: Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx For list server instructions, go to http://www.chrysler300club.com/yahoolist/inst.htm For archives go to http://www.forwardlook.net/300-archive/Yahoo!
