An eBay associate just started offering a service that recalls all previous eBay car sales for cars 20 years old or older. I looked up the 1955 C-300 and it listed the top ten sales in recent years at (descending): 55K, 45K, 35K, 30.2K, 25.2K, 15K, 13.27K, 13.17K, 5.05K, 4.15K. They are unable to pull up many of the auction pages so you can see what the car was. www.collectorcarpricetracker.com The two that went at an RM auction recently at $100K+ were most certainly of a higher grade. Based on these observations, I have elected not to do a major restoration on our nice driver C-300 as it would probably not be a good investment under current market conditions. However, our car has probably declined less than our house or our portfolio in the last 12 months. I do realize there are other motivations besides economic to collecting and restoring old cars. And, there may never be another Chrysler built. Investment in orphans, however rare and classic, has not always been a good idea.
