RE: [Chrysler300] Gas Math

Larry,

Think of it this way:

If your indicated speed is 83 but your actual speed is 70, that means
your true distance traveled is 70 83rds of the indicated speed.
Expressed as a fraction this would look like:

70
—-
83

If we convert the fraction to a decimal factor (by dividing 70 by 83)
we come up with .8433.

With this in mind you can either multiply your distance travelled .8433
and then figure your mileage (772 miles * .8433 = 651 miles divided my
62.6 gallons = ~10.4 mpg)

OR

take your 12.25 mpg and mulitply it by .8433 for an answer of 10.33
mpg.

At that rate if fuel consumption, we won't quibble about the .07 mpg
now will we?!

Me thinks you need a tuneup.... <grin>

Best Regards,

Why don't you Google or Map Quest, etc. the miles and divide the used
gasoline to find the answer??? :)

Back from trip to Temecula to hob nob with fellow 300'rs. Trying to
get a
handle on the MPG. In 772 miles I used 62.6 gallons of hi-test.
Easy
enough
here. Divide 772 by 63 showing 12.25 mpg gross. BUT, speedo is
widely
optimistic. The GPS says when the odo shows 83, actual road velocity
is
70. This
appears to be 18 percent high. Do I multiply the 12.25 by 118 which
gives
14.45? Or perhaps reduce the 772 miles which would also be 118 % high
to
the
actual road miles driven? Maybe that is the same but cocktail hour is

drawing near and don't want to damage the few brain cells left, that
is
Jack
Daniel's job. Help. I was always asleep during math.....only woke up
for
lunch
and auto shop. LJ
