[Chrysler300] Re:57 58 tail light comparison

Robert and all,

Yes, the '57 and '58 Chrysler tail lamp assemblies will interchange on the car bodies (but not the wagon bodies of course). There is absolutely no change whatsoever in the car sheetmetal in this area bolt hole for bolt hole. Many '58 owners found '57 lamp assemblies and put them on back in the day because they felt they were far more attractive. Why was the tail lens shrunk for '58? Styling I'm sure: one must make changes so the public has new eye candy. The '57 and '58 back up lenses have significantly different patterns in the lenses in an attempt to focus more light rearward in the successor year. Chrysler was arguably successful with the inner housing redesign attempt to enhance and bend the light for its intended use in both the tail and backup regions. Anyone driving behind a '57 Chrysler at night knows that the single 1157 bulb in that large lens gives a nice soft glow but little more.
