RE: [Chrysler300] Goodyear vs. BF Goodrich



Recently I was buying a couple of sets of wide whitewall radials, and the Australian importer who has also been a high volume seller of near all worldwide brands for modern cars of all types, told me Goodrichs, were on his customers feedback over years, maybe not so good in wet weather?!
 
I do not know if that applies to current ones, and whether it was a 'too hard' rubber/compound Goodrich issue.  Anyhow I put Firestones on my jag XKE, nice handling/ride/etc, whilst Cooper origin ones on few of my other classics, 70s El Camino, etc, ride much harsher over man holes etc on bitumen, same with Hankook narrow ww radials on my 300C driver.
 
On Diamondback wide whitewall radials, on one side all brand detail/etc is ground off, but your supplier will have listing of who original manufacturer is before the white is applied. Another 'issue' I believe is on some the white is too white, way too white, but it dulls a bit if you do not clean them?
 
No one likes to drive classics in wet weather, but I felt wet weather braking so important, I did not consider Goodrichs, which otherwise have been around for years, and popular.

The Goodrich had had great reviews even tested in the specific size I bought but it did not perform as well as some of the older high performance tires such as the Bridgestone RE71 (wish they still made those) or the Dunlop Sport D40M2 or the old Goodyear GS-C. I then replaced the Goodrich with Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 and what a difference in handling.My impression was the Goodrich compound had hardened significantly over the 2 years they were on - so maybe 2 yr old BFG vs new Goodyear is not fair - but even at end of life on the Goodyears they stuck good and were better in wet. Goodrich All Terrain KO on my Jeep also showed tendency of compound to harden significantly over 5 years - replaced them with half tread left cause they were squirrelly in the wet.Don't know about other specific tires of either, but as to manufacturing quality, I think the low end economy tires in either might be challenged, but at least in the high price spread, I like the Goodyears. If you are looking for non-high-performance, I like the Michelins that are on wife's car - 75k miles, good traction, good in the wet, and still have tread left - but not cheap.Some sellers will tell you Michelin owns Goodrich (true - and for that matter they also own Uniroyal), but don't believe the same level of engineering and manufacturing control goes into the subordinate brands that goes into the flagship Michelins. Stay away from Uniroyals - wife had 3 out of a set of 4 go south in a big way.
