RE: [Chrysler300] 1959 Steering gear shaft seal replacement

I replaced the steering gear shaft seal on our 1971 Chrysler New Yorker
about 20 years ago. I removed the old seal with a screw driver or very small
punch. Installed the new seal by using a small piece of hard wood that I
machined on my wood lathe. Then drilled a hole in the center of the hard
wood the same size of the shaft. The biggest job was disconnecting the
steering column from the steering box. From inside the car loosen the
steering column and pull it up enough to have room to remove the seal and
push it the new seal.

The seal in my steering shaft is leaking.. Has anyone on here ever replaced
one of these.   I have a new seal a $3.00 item.  But the installation looks
quite difficult.  Can this be done while the gear is still in the car ?
