David, Last summer I went through about 3 voltage regulators on my 64 Imperial until I replaced my alternator, then the problem went away. I took the alternator to the shop to be tested, and twice it tested okay. I removed the alternator from my 300H and put it in the Imperial and it worked just fine. But for some reason, when I replaced the alternator with a new one, the fourth regulator managed to last. Never knew why that happened, but the bad alternator was destroying the new regulators. At about $26 a pop, it was getting expensive. I used the solid state regulators. I have been using the NAPA replacement, but I am now on my 3rd regulator in as many years. At the moment, the voltmeter is wandering all over the map. I am looking for a better solution than the NAPA replacement. Any suggestions?
