I see buy the parts book for a G that the alternator is a 45 amp unit. This low capacity probably amplifies the electrical eccentricities especially at idle. I know there are higher capacity rotors and stators for most alternators so I took mine to a local and reputable re builder. It tested at 60 amps and when disassembled it could be seen that the rotor had been replaced. I had them replace the stator and now it tests at 90 amps. $84 including new bearings and brushes. It is not yet back on the car so haven't seen the results.
