Hello 300'ly toall! Back in December I sent out a message on the list server regarding purchasing the reproduction '57-'59 fuel tank, straps, J-bolts, and sending unit from Valley Vintage Auto Parts. This project was conducted by club member Al Kvatek with templates supplied by Murray Park and manufacturing done in Taiwan. Van's in Wisconsin is where the Taiwanese shipments are delivered and all purchased components of this offering are drop shipped to you from Van's. I recently completed the installation of the above named fuel system components. I also was pleasantly surprised that Valley Vintage also had the filler tube reproduced. My filler tube had been at some time prior to my ownership of my C, Mopsy, been sweat soldered to the tank. Needless to say when the tank and filler tube were removed as a unit we were scratching our heads. Filling the tank with water and stuffing wet rags in the hole where the sending unit goes with the tank on end, we managed to heat the neck of the tube and separate it from the tank. The tube end was pretty corroded. One call to Al Kvatek resulted in obtaining a new reproduction filler tube for $40. The installation of the tube, tank, sending unit, straps, and J-bolts went real smooth. I had the tank interior sealed with Bill Hirsch's aviation tank sealer and the exterior painted with Eastwood's Tank Tone just for grins. I had the straps and the non-threaded portions of the J-bolts painted gloss black. Per advice of George Riehl we used Seal-All adhesive around the junction of the filler tube and tank after the tube was inserted. Now the fuel gauge registers beyond the Full mark when the tank is filled, just like a modern vehicle. Needless to say I am very pleased the way the whole operation came together and with great results! Many thanks to Al Kvatek, Murray Park, George Riehl, Wayne Graefen, Ron Waters, George McKovich, and John Lazenby for advice and assistance in this project.
