RE: [Chrysler300] Branson 300F performance recap

Just for comparison: Our 5,000# 2005 345 CID hemi Durango for about 2400
miles-CA to IA-17.8 MPG. 3.92 diff with AWD. Gets about 13 MPG while
towing our 4000#+ 331 CID 1955 C-300. Better towing the C-300 than I can
get driving it (about 10-12 MPG). Missouri & Iowa gas is $1.99 to
$2.20/G--about 1/3 less than in CA. Corn gas works OK in the Durango, but
gets 1-2 MPG less, it seems.

My guess is that a computerized fuel injection system on the C-300 engine
would produce 15-20 MPG. I wonder if that could be hidden from the judges
in the batwing??? Excuse me, John--the DeltaWing.

C-300'ly,
Rich Barber

Good to see the blue Schwandt F again. My figures for the G are really close
to yours. The speedometer is still out, but I went back and looked up the
mile markers where I filled up:

>From flat mid-Illinois to mid-Missouri 12.8 mpg on the way down, 12.1 on
the way back.

Not exactly sure how much I drove around Branson, but my guesstimate for
hilly Missouri and Branson traffic puts us a bit under 10 mpg.

It was a nice meet. Rob and Marnie did a great job organizing it. I don't
think we're going back, but we had a fun time down there.

How does this compare to your MPG's??

1036 total miles to and from meet

88.935 gal total fuel

=11.648 mpg (includes approx 20 miles at meet)

12.78 mpg best tankfull mileage, 179 mi, (on way home w/nice tailwind)

10 mpg worst tankfull (at meet & includes miles at meet, plus miles to
next, and from last fillup, total 177)

Thanks to Bob and Marne for a great meet.

Carolyn and I both hope to "Bring it BACK to Branson" in the near future!!
