I would think there would have to be some special extra fuel injection when cranking to prime the cylinders--sort of like an accelerator pump in a carbureted engine. Perhaps the relay operates a fuel pump while cranking. The fuel injected turbo 2.2 in my 1986 Chrysler T&C convertible is a hard starter and seems to be without fuel until after a few seconds of cranking. It works just fine after that, so I'm thinking the priming may be inadequate. My 2005 fuel injected Dodge Durango hemi starts easily while my fuel injected 4.0 L 1999 Jeep Wrangler takes a few more turns to fire. I have heard the term "cold start" used to describe the priming feature. Measurable progress. When it arrived I tried to check the part number out. It appears to be in its original box although I had the same thought; however, when I compared it to the horn relays on my E and F, it is completely different. Maybe I should start looking for a fuel-injected engine! That IS rare. Now, the question is whether the number on the box matches what was in it. It would seem not. Pete Fitch In a message dated 11/9/2009 8:04:48 A.M. It says it is a Fuel Pump starter relay for a 1958 (only) Fury, D500, Adventurer or 300 with fuel injection. No wonder you couldn't find the number! Not many can use it.
