I have experienced similar to what you say and that will continue to happen, but can you believe I also had the opposite occur not long after importing my "L" into Australia. I was topping her up with gas and a fella asks me is it the 65 300 or New yorker which wasnt a bad effort, it was then I realised he did have a faint American accent and then told me he owned a 66 chrysler 300 as a kid. But apart from that ocassion, its strange question after strange comment every time I take her to Sea. Anzac day today here in Australia - same as your remembrance day in USA.
