Here is info I can add regarding vehicle 3N552665. According to the records I hold this was originally a Platinum car and not a Desert Sand. The wire wheels I believe to be of the "repro" type, but also with the lacing at the outer edge would be actually Plymouth-Dodge application. I noticed the horn ring is completely missing and the interior door handles are installed 90 degrees off from factory. The handle should be pointing straight down. The exterior rear view mirror appears not to be correct time period. Normally the C300 was delivered with an external mirror and then should a customer request the dealer would do an install. This type of mirror was usually mounted to the door not the fender as this example shows. There was a bullet style mirror used on 1956 examples that was a fender mount. There were fluted exhaust tips available, but what is shown I don't believe to be factory. Trunk carpet was a lite gray in color. The original material has not been able to be duplicated to my knowledge, but providers such as Gary Goers offers a very close color, but different material than original. I question the location of the heater hose hold down on the inner fender. Normally these were attached to the center spark plug cover on the valve cover. Battery cables don't look correct. I've never seen a factory "red" cable on this era of Chrysler products. The fuel hose between the carbs is not accurate and appears to be a piece of hose on barbed fittings. The water pump is for an Air Conditioned vehicle as there are two bolts where the compressor would attach on the bosses. Transmission dip sick should not be painted red. None the less with what Mr. Barber has stated and what I've added I find it a striking automobile and don't understand why the values are not rising. These cars someday will be awakened within the buying public. Those of you owning one or more I feel are setting on a sleeping giant regarding value in the the old car hobby. That auction is presently closed and has been advertising a $77,770 minimum bid and $79,900 Buy-It-Now. Not much room for negotiating. My recent observation of the market for old 300's on eBay is that most cars do not meet the reserve and are not sold. Its Desert Sand color is unusual, but not impossible. A Ditzler reference at: http://tinyurl.com/33lvrrx shows, but does not provide a paint code for Desert Sand and indicates it is available on two-tone Chryslers, only. Its microfiche record and chassis tag will tell the tale of its original equipment and paint. The wire wheels appear to have too many spokes to be Motor Wheel & Rim Co. OEM's. Fellow member Dykstra has a good-looking Tango Red car advertised on Hemmings Motor News at: http://tinyurl.com/39k5z2n Best wishes on finding the C300 of your dreams.
