Sounds as if you had a poor connection at one of the battery terminal cables. When you moved the battery to the other car and back the connection was improved during the reinstallation. -----------mg ---------- Original Message ---------- From: Matt Allyn <allynentertainment@xxxxxxxxx> To: Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, Chrysler Wagon Group <chryslerwagon@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Cc: lyle.smith@xxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [Chrysler300] 1962 Electrical Mystery! Date: Sun, 6 Jun 2010 09:23:05 -0700 (PDT) Hello All, Here's the scenario..... - 1962 New Yorker Wagon smells of burning electrical. - The cause; The cigarette lighter was pushed in and had stuck there and was overheating it's own red power wire. - Once disconnected and capped off, the car started and ran fine for 2 days. (What happened next could have nothing to do with the lighter debacle) - With the Ignition switch ON there was power. - When turned to the START position the entire power to the car DIED. - The battery voltage had dropped, though when I pulled that wagon battery and stuck it in the '62 300, it started the 300 fine. - Put the wagon battery back into the wagon. - Pulled the wires off of the Ignition Ballast Resistor to check the voltage readings. - For kicks, I tried to start the car, it started and now all seems fine. - Could the Ignition Ballast Resisitor be going bad? Maybe grounding out on the firewall? - Are there specific voltage readings that are NORMAL on each side of the Ignition Ballast Resistor? - With the key OFF, the Resistor reads zero on both sides. - With the key ON, the Resistor reads 11.4 on one side and less on the other. - With the car running, the Resistor reads 14.3 on one side and the 11 to 12 range on the other side. Care to help solve the mystery? (Though the car does seem to work fine now) Thanks!
