I found this post on the AACA forums, in reference to "re-lining" Buick/Olds?Pontiac aluminum brake drums; it appears, at first reading, applicable to our drums as well. This fellow in Australia uses Sulzer-Metco Spraysteel LS, a "low shrink, machineable work-hardening carbon steel with significant molybdeum content with friction characteristics similar to cast iron" in a metal spray process to effectively restore the worn drum surface to OEM specs. He used it on a set of rotors for a Buick Riviera, so it must work on surfaces other than aluminum. He suggests the process is available here in the US, although I've never heard of it. The process is used by military, airline, and the mining industy to replace worn, high-temp environment surfaces. Google "reline Buick brake drums" for more info. Apparently the aluminum brake drum folks have been shipping their old drums to him for a redo. Probably not as cheap as new drums, but, then again, what happens when you can't find drums anymore. ------------------------------------ To send a message to this group, send an email to: Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe from this group, send an email to: Chrysler300-unsubscribe@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx For list server instructions, go to http://www.chrysler300club.com/yahoolist/inst.htm For archives go to http://www.forwardlook.net/300-archive/Yahoo!
