I was forwarded an email this week by Burt Bouwkamp that he, in turn, had just received from Brian Ziegler, son of Gregg Ziegler. Brian sadly informed Burt of the death of Gregg Ziegler on the morning of Tuesday, June 22. As many of us know, Gregg was the driver for Burt's Daytona Speed Trials team who set the Flying Mile record in a 1960 300F. Gregg kept this very low mile car for some years before passing it on to other hands, and the beautiful black coupe is now running through the auction circuits. Gregg was one of those icons of the letter car era to whom we are all indebted and grateful. We enjoy our letter car hobby because of what all these guys did "back in the day". Happy Trails, Gregg. Sorry I never got to shake your hand. Keith Boonstra Holland, Michigan 300-C ***Following is a copy of the communications between Burt and Brian Ziegler: Thanks Brian. We are all going to miss him. Whenever I think of the Daytona Speed Trials I think of three thing (1) Gregg Ziegler, (2) six special 300F's, and (3) a speed record. I will always remember Gregg as "Gregg Ziegler, AGG "(a good guy). My assignment in 1960 was for Chrysler to win the Flying Mile at Daytona Beach. Gregg helped us do it - and he gave us a bonus of a new flying mile record.
