> Warren and all, > > Thanks for all the responses, Makes sense to me! > So how do I tell which distributors these might fit?? > Some are 2 piece pot metal w/clamping ring, others are 1 piece pot and the > other 1/2 galv steel/tin. All have threads for the screw in vacum line to > thread into. No parts #'s on any of 'em > A lot of parts do not have numbers. If your units have bare chambers with threads the fit is to install the spring and cap from the old unit in the replacement part and this procedure can make one basic part fit multiple applications. The vacuum advance curve for this type unit is easily calibrated also. Autolite and Ford used this type unit. An auto electric house with an historical libray that you could reference would be a good place to find. The books you are looking for are stocking guides or illustrated parts guides or unit parts guides and Echlin and Standard Ignition back about 1960 +or - is where you need to be although International trucks had adjustable vacuum controls up through 1980. Unit parts guide shows part numbers breakdowns for distributors, generators etc. This is a time involving process.
