Matt, I just went through this with my '61 G. I removed my cable, took off the old failed covering and brass clamp, coated the exterior of the cable sheath with black oil proof RTV and recovered it with 2 layers of 4' shrink tube purchased from Fry's electronics. Once I got the cable adjusted properly everything was fine and it is now completely dry. I am told Gary Goers sells a kit to do essentially the same thing.
