Re: [Chrysler300] drilling through carpet

Hi all:

Well, I do sort of a combination of all the suggestions. I cut an "X" in
the carpet and padding, push a tube through both of them and drill through
the tube, thus, the drill does not come in contact with the carpet or
padding.

Sounds like a great idea!

Here's how I do it. Long, long time ago, I took a 4" piece of 1/4"
stainless steel tubing and ground one end to form a circular knife blade. I put
the tube in my drill and use it to cut a hole in the carpet where I need to
drill. I also make sure I cut through the padding as well. The hole in the
carpet doesn't need to be the exact size of the drilled hole, it just needs
to be a hole so that the drill bit doesn't snag the strands of carpet.

Try this.....
Melt a hole through the carpet fabric with your solder gun 1st.
his will "sear" the strands melting them together on the ends so they
don't
avel up in your drill bit.
ust be sure to melt a big enough hole is all!
