Hi Larry, The '63 engines have a pad on the block just to the right of the distributor hold down clamp, below and somewhat behind the A/C compressor. You should be able to see it without having to move the compressor. A '63 383 block would be stamped T38 and also have the engine production date (e.g. 10-26 would indicate a build date of 10/26/62). A '63 413 block would be stamped T41 along with the build date. A 300J block is stamped C300J along with the build date, although I have seen sources site that early build 300J blocks were stamped T41. The 413 cid 360 horse option on the non letter '63 300 is not exactly rare IMHO, but not common either. I believe that they came with the smaller air cleaner (like the 300K & 300L), dual point distributor, and dual exhausts (unlike the 340 horse 413 in the New Yorker and Imperial). Also, a 383 should have come from the factory with a 2bbl carb and the 413 should have a Carter AFB 4 bbl. It has every option including leather. Seller tells me it is a 413. The AC compressor hides the engine serial number. Is there any visible proof of the cid of these RB engines other than the engine number? This car is a survivor and just makes me shiver with excitement should if really be a 413. The pragmatist in me suggests it can't be but a 383, but maybe? It will be at LSMFT....will you?
