Matt, Where that clip is, there's a slot that a shaft sets in. The clip is supposed to keep the shaft in the slot. I eliminated the clip problem by welding a washer onto the bracket at the slot, then slid the shaft through the washer and re-assembled. After that I made the adjustment detailed in the FSM. It's been working great ever since. Then the plastic clip that lives on top where the transmission bolts to the otor started to pop out of its metal housing. replaced the thin, old clip with a good original. (Thanks Ken!) Now THAT clip is popping out too! This is the clip that holds a horizontal rod... and the linkage offshoots from hat rod towards the carburetors AND down the firewall.) I assume that I need to break out the shop manual and do the full linkage djustment procedure from start to finish? ny other thoughts?
