Good memory there Peter. Our last purchase of 1/8" thick asphalt felt was in 2003, we had zero inventory by mid 2004. I've been steering inquiries to either R. E. M., Inc., Rd #1, Box 241C, Annville, Pa., 17003 717-838-4242, fax 717-838-5091 or go to your local building supply store and ask for roofing tar paper. Most new material will be 1/16" thick (they call that 30 pound), the original material was 1/8" thick. If you can't find thicker, you can go double thickness of 1/16"and have pretty good results. There might also be a chance that REM still has some of the thicker material. You might find some of the old original pieces have a waffle pattern or textured surface. New material won't have that. If you want to make your own surface texture, the material is soft enough to take an impression. Just find something suitable as a tool and press it. I used a plastic carpet runner that matched up well for texture. Found an archieved message from several years ago recommending #90 saturated roofing felt. Talked to guy this past July at the AACA meet in Louisville that had a reprodution pad in his 55 Imperial. Lost his name but I think he said it came from PA. Can anyone advise where to buy the reproduction and is it an accurate piece? Or is the felt still the way to go? Thanks for any and all help. Been reading for a while and decide to actually use this forum. Hope to finally have this eight year project on the road some time this spring.
