I used these guys to rebuild the p/s unit for my '55 C-300 in 2006.  The
unit works fine.  I have an unrestored unit I would part with and would take
it to San Jose for them to repair & send to you.

In my experience, Steer & Gear does the best reconditioning of steering
boxes, but then I am not certain whether they do gears for units as old as
55/56/57.  They are worth checking with.  I have no experience with Lares
though.
