The by-pass is to provide oil to the engine, in the event the filter gets too clogged to let oil thru it. Usually pressure operated. Oil from the pump can't get thru, pressure builds up, by-pass opens until excessive pressure drops. BUT, what it also, does mean is that all of the oil is filtered and cleaned. You should not get more pressure or flow, just cleaner oil. As a side you may need to change the filter in between oil changes because, "IT" the filter, may get more dirty and clogged with sludge.....sooner!? (just my 2cents worth of advice) Why do oil filters or their receptacles have by pass valves??? Anyone know if this would affect the above scenario.
