Hi all. A good tool for speedometer calibration is the portable GPS unit. For either changing rim diameter or just changing from OEM to more modern tire, a very easy way to check speedometer accuracy. Its not the wheels but the tires on the wheels - need to know the circumference of tires. If you are changing from 14" to 15", you can match dia fairly close. For example an original 8.50-14 would have been about 28.3 inch OD (varies slightly by brand and grade). 9.00-14 would have been 28.6 to about 28.8. Current P225/75R15 also shows 28.0 to 28.3 in. Current P235/75R15 shows 28.6 to 28.9 in OD. Note that a well worn tire would be about 16/32 or 0.5 in smaller or about 1.5 % difference on speedometer. Or if you already have tires and know you are 8% off, you can either change tires or rear end gears or speedo gearing but if you are only changing the 19 tooth gear, 1 tooth is a bit over 5%, 2 teeth is a bit over 10% - so you probably need to look at tire dia / circumference too.
