Re: [Chrysler300] rebuild steering gear 300G

I had Steer and Gear rebuild the box on my300D several years ago, and selected the Firm Feel option.  It works fine, but in retrospect I wish I would have selected to have it rebuilt to feel like the original.  That is one of the hallmarks of these old Chryslers.   Terry McTaggart

I'm planning to send my box to Steer and Gear as soon as I get my other car back together. They have a good reputation. Local club member Richard Osborne has known those guys for years and introduced me to them at the Mopar Nationals last year. They work on everything, but are true mopar enthusiasts.

Richard let me drive his G, which has one of the firm feel options. I didn't care for it. I've been driving '61 Chryslers since 1983 and my G since 1987. To me, the fingertip touch power steering is part of the character of the car. I thought it just made it feel heavier, and not any more responsive. I will be requesting a stock rebuild.

My power steering finally quit after 50 years of service while we were in

Monterey. Yesterday, I removed the steering gear unit and PS pump. I am

looking at sending it to Steer and Gear in Ohio and am thinking about having

them rebuild it with their Firm Feel level 1 option. Just looking at their

site, it appears as though they raised their prices significantly, it's now

$460 with core for the rebuild, last year it was about a $100 less. Before

I commit to using them, I would appreciate hearing from anyone that has used

them, and had the Firm Feel option done on their unit. Are you happy with

it?

Thanks!
