RE: [Chrysler300] 300L quarter panels needed & dash appliques

Desert Valley Auto Parts (DVAP) in Arizona had several 300 sports and New Yorkers with solid bodies a few years ago. Also, Wild Cat Wrecking in Oregon has had a selection. In most cases though, you can buy a good parts car for what they want for a couple of larger parts. 
 
As for the engine turned aluminium dash board trim; I've never been able to get an answer from anyone as to how that look was achieved. (If anyone knows, please speak up) Was it a 'turning' process using abrasives that was coated afterward to protect the aluminium from oxidizing or was something applied to the aluminium to have it appear as if it were engine turned. Back in the mid-eighties my mint dash in my first '65 300 was ruined when water from a sprinkler came in through an open window and landed on the glove box door. It left water spots that would not wipe off and actually appeared to have eaten away at a coating, leaving no sign of the turning underneath. When I tried to clean the spots off with a very mild polishing compound, I actually rubbed the 'turned look' right off with very little effort. It seemed to me at the time that what I assumed was a textured machine turned piece was actually some sort of thin applique on top of the aluminium. 
 
With vinyl technology what it is today, perhaps these could be restored or reproduced by covering a blank piece of aluminium with a transparent decal printed with a reproduction of the original look??
 
To my knowledge, whatever process that was used on these cars back in the 1960's doesn't seem to be readily available to restorers now. With all the 65 300's out there that could benefit from replacement dash inserts to complete restorations or just to freshen up original cars, this might be something that the club takes on as a group project. I'm sure there would be a number of interested members. Unfortunately, at this point of my life, I am not able to commit the time to a project like this, although I would be glad to participate if I could.

I need two quarter panels for a 300L coupe. If anyone has a lead on some decent used panels or even a solid parts car I would appreciate a nod. (New Yorker, Newport, 300 2-door)

I've seen some examples of "engine turned" appliques on hot rod dashboards and even noticed the similarity of the 300L dash to the trim on '64 Impalas. 
Has anyone tried with any success to use this material on their 300L dash? I've been unable to find it on the internet in a "thin enough" version, but it must be out there.
Any leads appreciated.
