[Chrysler300] 12-Volt conversion issues

With the possibility that my thoughts on a conversion to 12-Volts in a C-300
might be of interest/value to others, I'm forwarding my original response to
Bob Ryan. There may well be other items to consider and even contrary
opinions (gasp) (always welcome). I didn't even mention the radio-a major
change, but he '56 units should fit and perform well.

C-300'ly,

Don't. If hard starting is your problem, it's probably more fuel than
Voltage. Add a 6-Volt fuel pump back by the tank and run it as needed to
prime the carbs.

But, if you do, '56 instruments can be used for fuel, ammeter, temp. Be
sure to include a dropping resistor for start-run on the coil. I've heard
there is no need to change out the starter. Maintain positive ground or
ammeter will run backwards. Remember to X-out the gas tank sending unit.
You can stick with a generator or go to an alternator. Little stuff-clock,
lighter, turn signal flasher, horns, starter relay, Voltage regulator, coil,
F&R bulbs, trunk light, dash & map lights, headlights, temp sending unit.

Any hot tips on converting to 12 volt? I appreciate any help.

Thanks,

Merry Christmas,

Bob Ryan
