It is unlikely that you can ever get  crankcase gases into your cabin in such a concentration as to cause that kind of discomfort without having a severely malfunctioning engine.  What I think is more likely is that you are getting some of the exhaust fumes entering through a poorly sealing trunk weatherstrip, a taillight fixture, or a wiring hole in the body.  Even when you have a complete and good exhaust system there is a swirling of exhaust gases that can easily find entry through one of those spots.  That was a problem on my c300, my brother's c300, and especially on my '65 Barracuda before I installed new weatherstrips.
