[Chrysler300] Deck Lid Torsion Bars

Input from my friend and local INC club Konsultant, Chris Pinder.  Photos available on request.  If, perhaps, the plastic rub blocks are missing, you may be seeing some primer that was on the bars before the rub blocks were installed.  Interesting that the Konvertible and Koupe torsion bars are different.

According to the parts book, the trunk torsion bars are Chrysler only, Convertible only, and left & right.  They are not interchangeable.

 

My two examples show that the torsion bars are painted body color only and equipped with plastic rub blocks on the end of the bars to provide nonmetallic contact between the bar and the hinge.  Two pictures are attached above.

 

I suspect that the red paint reported by Ron Kurtz is an anomaly that occurred post factory.  My "two cents" for what its worth.

Hi, Don:

I received only one response from the club on these questions. Since you're the 
guru for '64, do you have any insight on this? I thought I would raise the 
question so those who are restoring to their cars to perfection could consider 
including the red color on these torsion bars. The paint is a close match to 
NAPA (Martin Senour paints) 7956 Buick Red engine enamel, the color that best 
matches the grille and brake cooler grilles on the E, according to one of our 
members some 20 years ago. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
