Years ago I gathered up all my 62 brake drums (about 12)and took them to local parts store for measurement and brake turning. The counter person measured over half as being at .060 or greater and would not turn them. I then went to another parts store which had a machine shop in back owned by an 70./80 man. He measured the drums getting a better reading then the previous store (he obtained the same reading with two different measuring calipers). The drums that exceeded .060 he said was no problem and would turn them since he remembered s that the early 60", and back, Chrysler's could be turned out to .090" (mid 60"s and later have only enough meat for .060"). he pulled out a book from his shelf of manuals and showed me were it was called out. What I learned is not to trust the measuring doe by some young auto parts clerk and to ignore any shop that says .060 is all a drum can take in machining.
